Greetings from Carole Taylor ... your Weekly Update ~ May 27

Intermittent fasting isn't complicated ~ It is simply periods of voluntary abstinence from food - typically one day per week.

Instead of strictly counting calories every day, intermittent fasting is all about when and how much you should eat.

Intermittent fasting may be the latest trend in health and wellness, but it’s nothing new at Isagenix. Since 2002, intermittent fasting as Cleanse Days has been central to the health and weight loss success of the Isagenix System.

Autophagy: Your Cells’ Own Internal Cleansing Process

Intermittent fasting has been shown to stimulate ancient adaptive cellular responses ~ enhancing defences against oxidative and metabolic stress and removing or repairing damaged cells as well as improving insulin sensitivity and burning visceral fat.

Many of us eat five times a day or more, including meals and snacks. This steady flow of nutrients can put some processes within your cells on hold.

One of these processes, called autophagy, can be thought of as your cells’ own internal cleansing process. Intermittent fasting, taking a periodic break from eating, allows the process of autophagy to be activated naturally.

During autophagy, worn-out or oxidatively damaged proteins and cellular components, such as mitochondria, can be tagged for disposal and broken down into their component parts. Undamaged building blocks like amino acids can be recycled to support cell maintenance and growth.

As a process of cellular cleansing and renewal, autophagy helps to support the health of the heart and the brain and is essential to the long-term maintenance of good health.

Burning Body Fat ~ Adipose tissue

Our two main energy sources are carbohydrates (via glucose) and fat (via fatty acids). Generally, after we eat a meal that contains a mix of nutrients, glucose is used for energy and fat is stored in adipose tissue.

Adipose tissue ~ or body fat ~ produces hormones which influence several important functions including glucose and lipid metabolism, blood coagulation, insulin sensitivity, blood pressure, and steroid hormone modulation.

Excessive adipose tissue can negatively affect health through insulin resistance, abnormal blood lipids, and even increased cardiovascular disease risk.

Intermittent fasting encourages the body’s ability to switch its fuel source from carbohydrates to fats.

Your body is now burning through fat to generate most of your energy, causing the fat cells to shrink in size.

As fat cells decrease in size, so too does the amount of hormones produced.

In addition to sustainable weight loss, this reestablishment of normal hormonal function can be immensely beneficial for health ~ including decreasing insulin sensitivity and reducing the molecules that induce inflammation.

Nutritional Support

Isagenix Cleanse Days are different from ordinary intermittent fasting because of the nutritional support that your body receives from Cleanse for Life.

This phytonutrient-rich botanical beverage was designed to support and reinforce your body’s natural detoxification systems while providing a targeted amount of nourishment to help you feel energized.
