Greetings from Carole Taylor ... your Weekly Update ~ Feb 27

We all know what it feels like when you don’t get a good night of sleep. The brain fog, sluggishness, and overall feeling of blah.

Unfortunately, we may not always make sleep a priority, which can have a negative impact on both our productivity and well-being.

Scientists have long known sleep loss can dramatically affect a person’s physiology in a myriad of ways ~ including cognitive function, weight maintenance, stress and the immune system.

How Sleep Affects Weight Maintenance

When your goal is to lose body fat, you’d expect to make changes to diet and exercise. But you might not think of factoring in sleep.

Sleep loss of just 60 minutes five days a week causes a shift in how the body responds to calorie restriction, including changing the balance of appetite hormones (leptin and ghrelin) as well as insulin sensitivity.

In a study from Arizona State University, scientists found that when overweight individuals skimped out on sleep for just one hour for up to five nights per week, they lost less body fat during a structured weight loss program lasting eight weeks.

Researchers at King’s London College found that subjects consumed more calories the next day after being sleep deprived. They also found that the majority of those calories came from foods that were proportionally higher in fat and lower in protein.

Better Rest Helps Boost Your Immune System

Getting adequate sleep is probably the most important habit to support the immune system.

Without proper sleep, the immune system is one of the first things to suffer.

In a study done by Surrey Sleep Research Centre in the UK, researchers evaluated the consequences of one week of insufficient sleep on 26 men.

They found that the men had altered activity of some 700 genes. A number of the genes affected by sleep deprivation were involved in immune system response.

Sleep Helps Moderate Stress

Sometimes the only difference between stress and your best is a good night’s sleep.

When you’re sleeping, the body is working on itself, building and mending.

When you don’t get enough quality sleep, stress hormones like cortisol can become elevated.

Melatonin

Melatonin is a hormone produced by the pineal gland, a tiny structure shaped like a pinecone, and is one of the primary mechanisms behind putting us to sleep.

Not just a sleep aid, it plays a large role in maintaining the brain.

Neurogenesis ~ the growth of brain cells or neurons ~ occurs during sleep and dramatically decreases with sleep deprivation.

Melatonin supplementation can re-establish an optimal sleep-wake cycle and increase neurogenesis in the hippocampus ~ the area of the brain that forms memories.

Melatonin also acts as a powerful antioxidant ~ superior in comparison to other antioxidants for limiting the consequences of oxidative stress in the body.

Isagenix Renewal Sleep Support ~ Spray Sleeplessness Away

Unfortunately, with age, the body’s natural production of melatonin declines.

With Isagenix Renewal Sleep Support you can be sure you are getting safe and effective amounts of melatonin for your brain ~ increasing natural sleep time, resetting the body’s sleep-wake cycle, and promoting healthy aging.

The fast-acting, spearmint-flavored spray contains additional ingredients such as theanine and chamomile that have shown to promote a calm and relaxed state, making this product unique to any other product on the market.

Together, these nutrients and botanical ingredients can promote a good night’s rest, which in turn may support memory, mental clarity, cognitive function, and overall brain health.
