Greetings from Carole Taylor ... your Weekly Update ~ September 26

While there is no one factor than guarantees a long and healthy life, there are simple improvements in our nutrition and lifestyles that we can make today that will give us the best chance of success.

Every cell in the body plays a role in healthy aging. From deep inside your organs to the outermost layer of your skin, how you nourish and protect your cells can help to keep you strong, healthy, and resilient for years to come.

Nutrient Dense Diet

One secret to living a long life is not about consuming or avoiding any particular food. Instead, centenarians (people living for 100 years or more) are known for diets that are calorie-controlled, balanced, low glycemic, low in saturated fats, and full of nutrient-rich vegetables.

Diets with adequate vitamins and minerals from both healthful foods and added supplementation have been shown to support cardiovascular and bone health, cognitive performance, and chromosomal telomere length, a biomarker of aging.

Protein to Preserve Muscle Mass

Nutrition plays an essential role in regulating muscle mass. A critical problem for many older individuals is the significant loss of muscle mass that can offset the benefits of reducing body fat.

The scientific evidence supports consuming increased amounts of total protein, specifically whey protein, in combination with resistance training and a reduced-calorie diet to optimize body composition.

Moderate Exercise

Researchers from Brigham Young University found that those who regularly perform 30-40 minutes of exercise, such as running or cycling, at least five times a week could be up to nine years younger on a cellular scale compared to those who don’t exercise at all.

Studies have also reported that high aerobic fitness is beneficial for maintaining brain function in older adults. The participants with higher levels of aerobic fitness had a more youthful pattern of brain activity, compared to their less fit peers.

Exercise doesn’t have to be extremely intense.

Including daily aerobic exercise like a bike ride, a hike, or even a brisk walk is going to go a long way toward supporting aerobic fitness and brain health.

Nutritional Fasting

Recent research has found that fasting can lead to improvements in circadian rhythm, circulation, cardiovascular health, cognitive health, and reduced oxidative stress.

Over time, these improvements could contribute to more active, fulfilling years.

Nutritional Supplements

Unfortunately, it can be difficult to get all the vitamins, minerals, and bioactive ingredients from our diets alone ~ or even know exactly what foods to eat and in what amounts to get what you need.

A comprehensive supplement is the best way to complement your diet and support healthy aging.

A growing body of scientific literature suggests that antioxidant nutrients along with select plant extracts and herbal ingredients can defend against the harmful effects of oxidative stress known to accelerate the cellular aging process.
