Greetings from Carole Taylor ... your Weekly Update ~ Oct 31

We all know that eating our fruits and vegetables is good for us. They supply needed vitamins and minerals and fiber. Another way that fruits and vegetables benefit our health is through the unique compounds known as phytonutrients.

Mangosteen is no exception ~ for centuries, the rind and flesh of mangosteen has been used as a medicinal agent by Southeast Asians.

One possible key to mangosteen's benefits are the many antioxidant phytonutrients it supplies.

Phytonutrients vs Free Radicals

Free radicals are unstable and highly reactive molecules. They may be formed as a by-product of normal metabolism, or through exposure to smoking and air pollutants, UV light from the sun, excess alcohol consumption, certain foods, and many other stressors.

They cause damage by “stealing” electrons from the structures within your cells in a process known as oxidation. Free radicals can damage practically any part of your cells, including proteins, cell membranes, and even your DNA.

Thankfully, antioxidants can shut down free radicals before they can cause serious damage. Our cells naturally produce their own powerful antioxidants, but we also need to consume antioxidant nutrients to keep this system working properly.

Mangosteen is particularly rich in anti-oxidant phytonutrients such as flavonoids, alpha-mangostin, and xanthones

Researching Health Benefits

As well as mangosteen's traditional use in treating ailments, several clinical studies suggest its health benefits ~ including increased antioxidant capacity, beneficial effects on immune system markers and a significant improvement in insulin sensitivity in obese individuals with no side effects.

Large human studies of the anthocyanins, flavonoids, terpenes, tannins and xanthones supplied by mangosteen are still in their early phases, but preliminary findings show potential in the areas of cardiovascular disease and blocking beta-amyloid plaque buildup in the brain.

Xango and Xango Reseve

Mangosteen does not grow well in North American or European climates. It is also very delicate and difficult to ship and therefore difficult to find in our supermarkets.

Fortunately, Isagenix Xango is the original mangosteen dietary supplement that captures the refreshing, sweet, tangy flavor and natural color of the mangosteen fruit.

Xango Reserve is crafted to deliver more mangosteen per serving, providing an incredibly rich, complex flavor and a greater amount of phytonutrients.

Both Xango and Xango Reserve are made from a puree of the whole mangosteen fruit that includes the rind, pulp, and seeds. Natural fruit juices are included to round off the natural delicious mangosteen of grape and strawberry and provide additional phytonutrient support.
